The State of Play presentation always attracts a lot of attention, as it’s a place to learn tons of new information about highly anticipated games. One of the highlights of the broadcast was Borderlands 4.

Gearbox treated us to a brand-new gameplay trailer, and at the end of the segment, Randy Pitchford announced that Borderlands 4 will be released on September 23 of this year.

In reality, Borderlands is the kind of franchise that fits the description: “If it needs to be explained to you, then you probably don’t need it explained.” The series has been around for fifteen years, and by now, most people already have a solid understanding of its looter-shooter dynamics and its distinct stylistic choices, including its rather specific sense of humor.

For this reason, longtime Borderlands fans will be counting down the seven months until the new title drops, while those who aren’t into the series will likely just shrug and skip the release—or wait for major discounts.
