Joanna Novak, the historical consultant for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 , shared insights into her work on both installments of the series, discussing the challenges and compromises involved.

She highlighted that the game’s narrative—centered around protagonist Hendrich—is far removed from the realities of what life might have been like for an actual blacksmith's son during that era.

According to Novak, the story leans more toward legend and folklore than historical truth. She rates the plot at "1 out of 10 on the realism scale," acknowledging the reasons behind the developers' choices. Players are drawn to rags-to-riches stories where the hero rises through the ranks, interacts with historical figures, and achieves greatness—rather than experiencing the mundane life of a peasant.

When it comes to the world-building and environment in Kingdom Come: Deliverance , Warhorse Studios aimed for authenticity but fell short of perfection due to time, budget constraints, and gameplay demands. Some adjustments were made to align with modern player expectations, ensuring historical accuracy didn’t detract from enjoyment.

Despite this, Novak remains pleased with the inclusion of many period-appropriate details. However, she stresses that calling the game realistic or historically accurate would be misleading.
