More than 300 million copies of Minecraft have been sold

Microsoft and Mojang announced that Minecraft has reached an important sales milestone. According to a press release, over 300 million copies of the game have been sold to date. Minecraft remains one of the best-selling games (for comparison: the latest figures show that Grand Theft Auto V has sold over 185 million copies). Minecraft became the first game in history to surpass this mark.

Also, at Minecraft Live 2023, the results of the vote for a new mob were announced. With the release of the 1.21 update, armadillos will be introduced in the game.

Three mobs were candidates in the vote that could be added to the game: penguins, crabs, and armadillos. In the end, gamers chose armadillos. They will inhabit savannas and, when in danger, will curl up into a ball. Their armored scales can be used to make armor for tamed wolves.

Fans were disappointed that the main theme of the 1.21 update will be the addition of only one mob. They expressed their dissatisfaction in a petition that was signed by more than 350,000 people in just a few days.

They demanded to stop holding the annual vote and start adding all three monsters to the game at once. The community believes such activity "divides the gaming community," forcing active players to compete with each other and form coalitions.
