Netflix has officially announced a new animated series based on Minecraft, the global sandbox game phenomenon. The first footage from the show will be unveiled on June 12 at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival, which will take place in France this year.

This announcement follows the unexpected box office success of Minecraft: The Movie, which hit theaters on April 4 and grossed over $550 million worldwide, becoming the highest-earning video game adaptation to date.

The upcoming series promises to present an original narrative set within the Minecraft universe. WildBrain, the studio behind Sonic Prime and Ninjago: Dragons Rising, is leading production. Initial teaser trailers were released in 2024, hinting at a vibrant and imaginative take on the iconic blocky world.

Minecraft, first launched in 2011, is a sandbox video game where players explore and build in procedurally generated environments. It's available on PC (Windows, macOS, Linux), consoles (Xbox One, Series X/S, PlayStation 3–5), and mobile platforms (iOS, Android).
