Ubisoft has released a new article detailing gameplay features of Assassin's Creed: Shadows focusing on the equipment and progression systems for characters Yasuke and Naoe. A standout feature includes an enhanced function of the iconic Hidden Blade that fans will surely appreciate.

Both characters will have distinct skill trees tailored to their combat styles—Yasuke specializing in samurai techniques, while Naoe focuses on shinobi skills. Skill points can be allocated toward unlocking additional weapon-specific abilities or refining fighting styles. Players earn mastery points by completing open-world objectives or defeating unique foes like Daisyo samurai.

To ensure balanced growth, both characters will progress evenly, preventing one from lagging behind the other. Unlocking powerful abilities requires specific actions, such as tracking down a mysterious shinobi group. Other upgrades are tied to the "Knowledge" scale, which advances through studying manuscripts or praying at shrines. Reaching the sixth Knowledge rank grants access to a new skill tree.

Additionally, Ubisoft showcased the equipment system, where items come in five quality tiers: common, uncommon, rare, epic, and legendary. Gear can be upgraded at a blacksmith and even customized visually. Special perks for armor and weapons may alter gameplay dynamics entirely.

The Hidden Blade returns as the ultimate tool, capable of instantly killing enemies with a single strike. Assassin's Creed: Shadows launches globally on March 20 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
