It's been a while since we last talked about Ubisoft, hasn't it? Well, next Thursday, the company is releasing Assassin's Creed Shadows, and the success of this game could very well determine the future of the entire corporation.
Today, Ubisoft’s official channel released a new video dedicated to the game. You might think this is the launch trailer… but the title labels it as a TV commercial, which raises some questions.
The issue isn’t that the video is bad—because it’s not. It’s smooth, cinematic, and visually impressive. The concern is that Ubisoft seems to be pushing the game more through traditional media. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that, but why is a TV ad being uploaded to Ubisoft’s YouTube channel? Maybe this is nitpicking, but this approach doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in the release.
That said, enough speculation. The video does a good job of showcasing the differences in gameplay and fighting styles between the two main protagonists. Japan looks stunning, but you can’t judge an entire game based on a one-minute cinematic. We'll just have to wait for the release.
