Creative director Jonathan Dumont has revealed that finishing the core narrative of Assassin's Creed Shadows will require roughly 30 to 40 hours, while exploring all the optional content could add another 30 to 40 hours, resulting in a total estimated playtime of about 80 hours. This insight comes from an interview with journalist Genki and provides clarity on what players can expect in terms of time commitment.

Previously, Dumont had drawn parallels between Shadows and earlier installments such as Origins Odyssey and Valhalla However, since these games vary significantly in length, this comparison offered limited value. Acknowledging the difficulty in quantifying open-world experiences, Dumont refined his statement, emphasizing that Shadows shares a similar scope to Origins According to How Long To Beat, Origins demands approximately 30 hours for the main campaign and upwards of 80 hours for perfectionists.

In contrast, Valhalla has been criticized for its demanding 60-hour main story and staggering 150-hour potential when accounting for all content. Should Dumont’s projections prove accurate, Shadows offers a more digestible yet rewarding experience.

Mark your calendars—Assassin's Creed Shadows releases on March 20th for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
