Surf in Counter-Strike 2 is a popular game mechanic that quickly gained popularity first in CS:GO and later transitioned into the second installment of the online shooter. It is not only used for competitions but also for championships, and many players wonder whether they should switch from the regular mode to this one. Interested? So let’s figure out how it works in CS2!
What is Surf

We are used to the concept of shooting being central to games like Counter-Strike. However, in Surf, the key is to choose the right angles and trajectories to gain speed and move to another platform. The goal is not to eliminate all enemies but to complete all the stages and reach the finish line. This is the entire appeal of such maps. Just look at how smoothly and gracefully the character moves in the next video. The movements are so precise and refined!
Next, we will explain the basic mechanics and concepts to help you take your first steps in this unusual mode.
How to Surf in CS2
Forget about the W key as soon as you step onto the track. From now on, you will only use D and A. Use A to move along the right path and stay on it, and D for the left. Keep in mind that if you accidentally press W, you will immediately stop. It sounds simple, but in practice, it takes hours of practice.

To climb higher or dive down, use the mouse. When you're at the edge and need to rise, move the mouse up; when you need to descend, move it in the opposite direction. However, you still need to hold the corresponding movement key, A or D. It's important to synchronize the keypresses on your keyboard and the mouse movements so they become one fluid motion.
Another key rule to mention is air strafing. Whether you're in the air or on the surface, always press the key that "pins" your character to the track. In simpler terms, if you're jumping from the left ramp to the right, press D in mid-air to control your movement direction, and when you land on the surface, press A.

The final important element is the ramp. In the next video, Rapster, one of the top surfers in the community, visually demonstrates all the features of this surface.
The blogger not only explains how to jump onto the ramp correctly and at what angle, but also covers some of the deeper nuances. However, if you're a beginner to surfing, you don't need to worry about these details just yet. Simply follow one rule—aim for the spine. The closer you land to it, the higher your speed will be. And you need to descend along a specific trajectory: make a kind of curved line to the middle of the track and then soar upward again.

What to do on turns? Forget about the A-D rule, although your fingers will reflexively reach for the correct buttons. In this case, the inversion applies. For example, on the right track, press D, and vice versa. It's like you're "pushing" the character to the side.
This kind of obstacle appears not only on medium and high-level maps but also on low-level ones, so it's best to pay attention to them as soon as you've learned the previous steps.

Surf Commands
When you join someone else's game, you don’t need to enter anything—everything is set up for you. However, if you want to create your own server, you will need some commands to either make the game easier or, perhaps, more challenging.
First, enter sv_cheats 1 to enable all console commands.
- give weapon_knife. Gives the player a knife, allowing them to gain speed faster;
- sv_enablebunnyhopping 1. Enables jumping without losing speed;
- sv_accelerate 10. Allows for faster acceleration;
- sv_airaccelerate 800. Improves control in the air and maneuverability;
- sv_maxspeed 620.0. Sets the maximum speed;
- sv_maxvelocity 7200.0. Increases the maximum velocity.
