Christmas is just around the corner, which means it’s time to put on your fluffy socks, snuggle up under a blanket, and watch something cozy. The unique festive atmosphere is created not only by Christmas trees, garlands, and a mug of hot chocolate but also by themed movies and TV shows. We’ve prepared a holiday selection to brighten your leisure time!

Movies

Home Alone and Home Alone 2

Of course, we couldn’t start without the timeless classic. Every Christmas, I rewatch these films and feel like I’m back in my childhood, remembering how I used to watch these two masterpieces with a glass of Coca-Cola and a huge serving of ice cream.

The story revolves around a boy named Kevin who battles two bumbling yet dangerous criminals. In the first movie, they plan to rob his house, but Kevin, with a clever plan, thwarts them. In the second—they aim to rob a famous toy store in New York, but once again, the brave boy steps in to save the day.

In both chapters, his parents conveniently forget about him and go on vacation. Well, they definitely deserve the "Parents of the Year" award.

Last Holiday

I adore this film for its heartwarming atmosphere, even though it begins with a sad premise. The main character discovers that she has very little time left to live, so she decides to take a grand vacation and indulge herself completely. In other words, she chooses to live the rest of her life in luxury, something she never experienced before.

What follows is an incredibly cozy and even amusing adventure. Her kindness and outlook on life are infectious, and her positivity is inspiring. I definitely recommend watching this gem if you haven’t already!

The Holiday

Iris Simpkins, a wedding columnist for the British newspaper Daily Telegraph, has no luck in love—she’s given her heart to a man who only takes advantage of her professional skills.

Amanda Woods, a successful businesswoman who owns an agency specializing in creating movie trailers, is equally unhappy in love.

On Christmas Eve, the two women decide to take a break from their worries and swap homes for two weeks. Iris heads to sunny California, while Amanda finds herself in snowy British countryside.

Personally, I love this movie. It’s incredibly charming, and Jude Law is simply breathtaking—one look from him makes your heart skip a beat.

Father of the Bride

Here’s another cozy movie for the collection. I find it touching how the main character, played by Steve Martin, has to let go of his beloved daughter as she gets married. That moment of realization, when your little girl has grown up and her husband becomes the main man in her life, is deeply moving.

The film has no aggression or negativity—just a touch of humor, a bit of drama, and a lot of warmth, especially when you see the close and heartfelt bond between the father and daughter.

Love Actually

Another indispensable classic that I can’t imagine Christmas without. I love the cast, the movie, and the atmosphere it portrays.

The story unfolds over five weeks leading up to Christmas in 2003. During this short time, ten stories intertwine, all centered around love.

The characters in the movie are in love and hopeful: they laugh and cry. From a married woman to a bride, teenagers, elderly people, a prime minister, and even an aging pop star—everyone participates in this grand celebration of life.

TV Shows

Dash & Lily

A teenager named Dash, who despises Christmas and all the festive fuss, finds a red notebook on a bookstore shelf. It was left there by Lily, a girl who has yet to experience her first love.

In the notebook, Lily gives the finder a series of challenges, and Dash decides to join this unusual game. The two strangers begin leaving the notebook for each other in various quirky locations, sharing their deepest thoughts and dreams. Surprisingly, this strange encounter changes not only their lives but also the lives of those around them.

Sherlock

Some might find this choice odd, but for me, this show is closely associated with Christmas.

First, it features several episodes dedicated to the holiday. Second, it’s incredibly captivating—the chemistry between the main characters, the intriguing cases, the fantastic Mrs. Hudson, and the insufferable Mycroft. And, of course, the main villain, who matches wits with Sherlock in a true battle of intellects where only the strongest prevail.

Home for Christmas

This Scandinavian series tells the story of Johanne, a 30-year-old woman tired of being single and dealing with her family’s constant questions about her personal life. She promises to introduce them to her boyfriend on Christmas—but there’s one problem: she doesn’t have one. This sets off a desperate search.

Watching this charming and witty woman navigate dating apps and give chances to men who, frankly, should have been dismissed immediately, is pure fun. With just six half-hour episodes, this delightful and heartwarming story is perfect for a couple of cozy evenings.

Christmas Flow

At Christmas, sparks fly between a popular rapper and a headstrong journalist. Sure, it might seem strange or even questionable, but that’s the charm of the series. The big question is: will this connection blossom into something more?

We’ve compiled a list of Christmas movies and TV shows that are sure to get you into the holiday spirit. Of course, there are plenty of other great projects out there. What title would you recommend? Share your answers in the comments!
