Throughout its long history, Riot Games has delighted players with an impressive number of designs for champions. Particularly impressive skins drop less frequently than regular ones, but they are still possible to obtain. Meanwhile, there are cosmetic items that are much harder, or even impossible, to acquire. These outfits are truly rare, and users who have them on their accounts can proudly display these relics.

What are the rarest skins in League of Legends?

These are character outfits that players could only obtain during certain events. They are called "legacy skins".

At present, they can only be acquired through accounts that already have them. Perhaps one day Riot Games will allow players to purchase them again, but the chances are slim. Below, we’ll discuss some of the rarest examples.

Young Ryze

Young Ryze was a reward for pre-ordering the collector's edition of the retail version of LoL before its global release. No other method of acquiring it has ever existed.

Visually, the character differs from the standard version: he appears younger, with lighter skin and a less muscular physique. This is the only design where Ryze is depicted as a human.

His clothing is also notably different: he wears simple armor and more traditional elements that give him the look of a young mage. The look does not change ability animations or visual effects, which is typical of older skins, but its rarity alone makes it one of the most sought-after by collectors.

Silver Kayle

Another rare skin, released in 2009. Like Young Ryze, it was only available to those who purchased the collector's edition of the game, which automatically made it exclusive. Unlike the standard version, Silver Kayle has silver wings, armor, and weapons, giving her a more majestic and divine appearance.

Many players see her as a symbol of the early days of League of Legends when the game was just gaining popularity. Over time, her value has only increased, as this skin is impossible to buy or obtain unless you own a physical copy of the game.

Urfwick

Next in the selection is a unique and humorous skin for Warwick. It was created in honor of the legendary character Urf, whom Riot Games supposedly planned to add to the game on April 1st. The outfit was released in 2010 and quickly became iconic among fans for its comedic theme. Urfwick is dressed in a seal costume of Urf, complete with a spatula.

Originally, it was available only through limited offers, and the proceeds from purchases went to charity. After the skin was removed from sale, its rarity and value skyrocketed.

Although Urf never made it into LoL, Riot Games honors the character every April 1st by adding the U.R.F. mode, in which all champions become much more powerful.

UFO Corki

UFO Corki was released in celebration of the first million registered users in 2010. The skin was a free gift for all players who registered before January 2010 and has been unavailable for purchase ever since.

Instead of his standard flying machine, Corki pilots a futuristic UFO, giving the character a fun and original look. The design is subtle but unique, incorporating space-themed elements.

Players who managed to get UFO Corki are considered veterans of the game. The fact that this outfit is no longer available makes it particularly valuable and highly coveted. In the community, the skin has become a kind of reward for long-standing loyalty to the game.

Judgment Kayle

This skin, released in 2011, was a reward for players who participated in at least 10 ranked games during LoL's first season. From the second season onwards, it became impossible to obtain.

Judgment Kayle features a grim and dark style: she’s clad in dark armor, her wings radiate the light of justice, and her sword looks more menacing than in the standard version.

Usually, this champion appears as a bright knight-angel, so this design is unusual for her. It gives the impression that the character has started using dark forces to fulfill her noble goals.

King Rammus

One of the first skins in LoL, making it so rare that few have even heard of it. This valuable treasure was given to beta testers as a reward for their participation.

Riot Games is unlikely to bring back King Rammus, as it’s a clear homage to Bowser. No one wants to get into legal trouble with modern Nintendo

As for the hero's appearance, I like that, aside from the obvious reference, there is some uniqueness. Rammus’ shell on his head resembles a hood, his mouth is hidden behind a mask, and his eyes glow mysteriously from the darkness. It’s a clear ninja look, which is quite unusual for a champion whose role is primarily that of a tank. This element showcases how creative the developers were in their early days.

Championship Riven

Next, we have one of the most iconic and rare designs in League of Legends, released to celebrate the 2012 World Championship finals. It became one of the first themed skins dedicated to esports events and boasted a truly epic design.

In this skin, Riven is dressed in blue armor, her sword is adorned with championship symbols, and her visual effects are more vibrant and celebratory. The 2012 World Championship left a lasting mark on the game’s history, and this look became a symbol of that event.

However, the outfit is not only valuable for its design but also for its rarity. It was only available during the 2012 championship, after which it was removed from sale, making it one of the hardest-to-get cosmetic rewards. In 2016, Riot released an updated version — Championship Riven 2016 — but the original remains exceptionally rare and coveted.

Black Alistar

This skin was only available to players who purchased the collector’s edition of the game in 2009, making it almost unattainable for most players.

The design completely changes Alistar’s appearance, giving him a more fearsome and sinister look: his look turns black, and his armor features elements reminiscent of ancient and dark battle gear. Visually, he appears far more menacing than his standard version, emphasizing the character’s strength and power.

Over the years, the skin’s rarity has only increased, as it is no longer available through the in-game store or promotions. Black Alistar has become synonymous with exclusivity and rarity, and whenever it appears in-game, it garners admiration from users.

Pax Jax

Pax JaxImage: webtekno.com

This design was created and released in honor of the 2010 PAX Prime conference. It was only available to players who attended the event and received special code cards.

PAX Jax resembles Temple Jax but with a dominant yellow color, similar to Angler Jax. His weapon changes from a fishing pole to a lamppost. However, in this version, with a clear samurai theme, Jax wields a piece of bamboo.

An important aspect of this skin is its exceptional rarity. It became one of the two rarest outfits in the game because it was never released again after PAX 2010. In 2023, an updated version was sold, but it’s no longer the same original version.

Pax Twisted Fate

Like PAX Jax, this look was released to celebrate Riot Games’ participation in PAX Prime, but a year earlier. It was available exclusively to conference attendees, making it instantly an exclusive skin.

PAX Twisted Fate is a unique version of the character: his classic suit is replaced with a stylish black and blue outfit with shiny accents. The cards he throws at enemies also change color, making his abilities more vibrant and flashy.

Currently, League of Legends features incredibly colorful outfits that not only change the champion's appearance but also add extra functions, such as music or the ability to switch costumes mid-match. However, for collectors, the simpler yet iconic skins from the past hold far greater significance. The memory of these events and the sense of connection to the origins of the game can be worth far more than any mythical look.
