Customization in League of Legends comes in many forms—from skins, like those for your favorite duelist Fiora, to various profile elements such as changing your avatar or background, and of course, special rewards and statuses that can appear in the game lobby and loading screen.4o
One of these features is the so-called "player diff", which is earned by completing special challenges. We will explain this status in more detail and what it entails in this article.
Player Diff and Challenges
First of all, it’s important to understand what Challenges are, as the two concepts are closely related. These are achievements that are earned for free by completing specific actions during a gaming session. The simplest example: dodging a few skill shots in ARAM mode.

The challenges themselves are divided into the following types:
- Expertise. Winning through good skill against your opponent;
- Veterancy. Focused on lifetime stats;
- Collection. Collecting loot and cosmetic items;
- Imagination. Focused on game modes and innovative tactics;
- Teamwork & Strategy. Focused on team play.
A type of achievement that could be considered a "Diff" is challenges earned by playing specific types of characters, such as Jungle, Support, or other hero types. Each of them is represented in the game by a special token (an icon) that can be displayed in the player’s profile if they choose it. These tokens are visible in the Lobby and Loading Screen, so that those in the match can understand the skill level of the player they will be fighting or teaming up with.

Now that we've covered the theory of challenges, let’s move on to the most interesting part—what exactly is Player Diff and how do you earn it?
How to Get Player Diff
The essence of this challenge is simple—you need to outperform your opponent in lane. Outplay them in terms of K/D/A, farm more minions, push the lane. There are several types of titles:
- Jungle;
- Support;
- Bot;
- Mid;
- Top;
- Player Diff.
The mechanics of earning points are simple: the more victories in a specific role, the higher the level. However, each role is leveled separately, so winning with LeBlanc in mid does not level up your Jungle!
By the way, we have a separate article about this and other top female champions in LoL, which we recommend checking out.

Perhaps the last point confused you. While the others are intuitive, this one needs clarification—this status is awarded to the player who chooses a random champion.
If you're a beginner and aren’t quite sure what "winning with a random champion" means, we will explain it in detail now. When searching for a game, you can select the "Autofill" mode, where the system places you in a team with other players and assigns you a random champion. This could be a champion you may have never played before!

In addition, there are other types of challenges that can be earned under more specific conditions. For example, Comeback Kid is awarded for winning a match in which you score more than 15 kills. Or Flawless Victory—for this one, a single win is enough. "A piece of cake!" you might say. Not quite! It has to be a match where the enemy team didn’t get a single kill, didn’t take any map objectives, and didn’t destroy a single turret.

Despite the seemingly simple phrasing, earning high ranks in this achievement is no easy task. It’s not necessary to master every champion in the game if there are easier ways to customize your screen by thoroughly studying one champion. However, you will need to play only that role. For a long time... and hard.
In any case, we hope this clarifies what player diff in LoL is. Have you already earned this title? Be sure to share your achievements in the comments!
