Surely everyone has experienced hearing a song or watching a movie that sticks in memory, yet you can't recall its name or source. One such case led to a massive global mystery that reached its happy end after 17 years of people worldwide searching for answers.
Around forty years ago, a German teenager named Darius recorded a song he heard on a local radio station. Around 20 years later, in the early 2000s, Darius digitized his cassette recordings and uploaded them to his website in hopes of identifying the unknown songs and their artists. Among these tracks was the short snippet of a song, which he had been unable to identify.
Darius's sister, Lydia, decided to help Darius. In 2007, she uploaded a snippet of it to several sites, hoping someone could recognize it. This marked the beginning of what would become known as the search for the "most mysterious song on the internet," a journey that would last 17 years.
Starting in 2007, the song snippet slowly spread across the internet. At first, only a small group of dedicated music enthusiasts were searching for it as a hobby, but interest grew as the song remained unattributed. By 2019, it had gone viral, and hundreds of internet sleuths from Reddit and other platforms joined the search.
The mystery was finally solved this week. A Reddit user marijn1412 revealed the discovery. He came across a mention of a band called Fex. There were several hints towards it, but it was also a lucky guess.
Marijn1412 was able to contact one of the members, requesting some recordings from that era. The band member shared several tracks, and among them was the "most mysterious song on the internet," titled Subways Of Your Mind. Musician was shocked by the popularity of the song, and now Fex members plan to reunite and rerecord it.
