The popular messaging platform has begun testing a new age verification system that requires users to confirm their identity through facial scanning or document upload. Currently, the feature is being trialed among users in the UK and Australia, though the exact timeline for completing testing and potential global rollout remains unclear.

The age control system works across all platforms, including Discord versions for Xbox and PlayStation 5 gaming consoles. When attempting to view 18+ marked content or adjust media filter settings, users are prompted to complete verification via their smartphone's front camera or by uploading an ID scan. The procedure takes no more than five minutes, after which the account receives appropriate age labeling.
Despite user concerns about privacy, Discord representatives state that all biometric data is processed exclusively on-device without server transmission, while document scans are deleted immediately after verification. The assigned age category remains permanent, though users may request re-verification when necessary.
Importantly, the system automatically blocks accounts of users below the minimum age threshold. Access restoration in such cases is only possible through Discord's official minor appeal procedure, whose details remain undisclosed.
