Starting October, one of the most iconic Twitch emotes, BibleThump, is no longer available on the platform. This emote is based on the face of Isaac, the protagonist of the Binding of Isaac game, and is used to express sadness. The platform stated that the rights to emote expired, but the creator of the game, Edmund McMillen, responded that nobody approached him with a renewal offer, making it clear that it was the platform who decided to move on.

Since then a drama appeared. Twitch tried to offer three possible substitutions to the emote, but viewers made it abundantly clear they are not interested in any of these options. Twitch rival, Kick, decided to approach to McMillen, but in the end players advised Edmund to think of other way due to controversies around the platform.

In the end, McMillen decided to give rights to popular third-party extensions, FrankerFaceZ and 7TV, so users can still post their favorite image despite something that looks like a corporate greed.

Unfortunately, for many users who, for different reasons, enjoy the vanilla Twitch experience, the BibleThump icon has moved to emote heaven. Luckily, it is not gone entirely.
