Encounters with Rogue Exiles in Path of Exile 2

The April update Dawn of the Hunt for Path of Exile 2 brought many new features to the game. Among them are the sudden encounters with Rogue Exiles. Let’s talk about what they are, what challenges these encounters present, and what rewards you can earn by coming out victorious.

Who are Rogue Exiles in Path of Exile 2

So, who exactly are these so-called Rogue Exiles? They are exile characters just like yours, but controlled by artificial intelligence. These heroes belong to a specific class and are equipped with armor, amulets, rings, weapons, etc. They even have potions in their arsenal, so they can heal and restore mana at the most inconvenient times, just when you thought victory was within your grasp!

They use the same skills and equipment as real players, making encounters with them resemble PvP combat. Rogue Exiles move at the same speed as you, can dodge, assess the environment for cover, and launch surprise attacks. In version 0.2.0 of the game, duels with them could turn into intense battles comparable in length to boss fights, which is why their health was reduced by 40% in patch 0.2.0b. However, their main feature isn’t their long HP bar, but their advanced AI, which makes them truly formidable opponents! 

How to Encounter Rogue Exiles

There are a total of 12 types of these enemies in PoE2. They are exiles just like you, but blinded by madness, malice, or a thirst for loot. Obsessed with one (or all) of these things, they are doomed to wander the vastness of Wraeclast forever. Therefore, you can encounter them anywhere in the locations you visit, including the Atlas. Explore the maps and hope that, sooner or later, you’ll come across this unique monster, as the rewards for defeating them are well worth it!

Rewards for Defeating Rogue Exiles

So, as we’ve already mentioned, these guys are tough opponents, and defeating them can be quite a challenge. But is there a worthy reward for your efforts? Absolutely! First of all, even before they drop their loot at your feet, you can already see which unique items you’re going to get. See that text under the enemy’s health bar? It lists the unique (orange) items used by the Rogue Exile, which will drop from them after their death.

Secondly, after defeating the enemy, you'll also receive other valuable loot. Sure, it may not be as rare, but it's still high-quality gear of at least Magic rarity. After all, you don’t wear white-tier items, do you? Neither do Rogue Exiles! They drop not only weapons and armor, but also gloves, rings, amulets, and much more—including currency items they happened to have in their pockets. You can see an example of this loot in the screenshot below.

And one more important tip! Be extremely careful and focused during your fight with a Rogue Exile—if you lose and get killed (including all party members if you're playing in co-op), they will permanently leave the map, and you can wave goodbye to them… along with the valuable items in their inventory!
