In 2024, a major DLC is expected for Elden Ring. Fans and general enthusiasts of the souls-like genre are already preparing to conquer this grim, dying world once again. But there are also those for whom the release of the DLC will mark the beginning of this challenging journey.
The main difficulty for newcomers will be the bosses. Not only will some of them have to be sought out across the vast map, but battles with them will prove to be a real test. We have prepared a guide in which we describe each story boss and touch upon several interesting side bosses.
Grafted Scion
You won't have to search for it — this is the first boss you'll encounter at the very beginning of the game. For many, this was a surprise, as facing a powerful opponent at the start is almost pointless. In most cases, the Grafted Scion will kill you, but don't lose heart – this is part of the developers' design. Later, around level 60, you can return and take your revenge.
Margit the Fell Omen
The first story boss you definitely won't miss, as Margit guards the only path to the castle. The boss uses a combination of spells and physical attacks. He prefers close combat, with the most dangerous weapon in his arsenal being a hammer jump. Margit is vulnerable to bleeding, so we recommend exploiting this, as well as summoning spirits.
Godrick The Grafted
The ruler of Stormveil Castle is the first possessor of a shard of the Elden Ring. He revels in his power, but is actually at the very bottom of the hierarchy of demigods.
The boss has 2 phases. After growing a dragon's head, he begins to inflict massive fire damage across the area. Godrick is vulnerable to bleeding, and if you maximize this debuff and summon a phantom or spirits, the boss can be defeated before the second stage.
Red Wolf of Radagon
The Red Wolf can be found in the Raya Lucaria Academy. To get there, you need to find the Academy Glintstone key. The boss doesn't require a sophisticated battle strategy, but can still be problematic. The enemy's tactic is fast dashes and jumps. Dodging won't be easy, and if you chose the path of a warrior, it's better to parry attacks with a shield. It will be most difficult for mages, as the enemy quickly closes the distance.
Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon
Another story boss, Rennala, is located in the Raya Lucaria Academy and has settled in the library. Rennala is a mage who uses a multitude of spells. Like you, the boss summons phantoms, so be cautious as these creatures deal significant damage. Rennala is susceptible to physical damage and bleeding, making the fight challenging for mages. To break the enemy's shield, kill the mage-minions.
Godfrey — First Elden Lord (Ghost)
Godfrey is truly great, unlike his descendant, Godrick The Grafted. After Rennala, Godfrey may seem like an easier boss, as his attacks are extremely slow, making them easy to predict.
This time, mages can shine — the key is to maintain distance. Melee fighters should aim to get behind him. The most dangerous attack is Godfrey's axe, as it deals area damage.
This is only Godfrey's ghost, and you'll encounter the real one later. Trust us, it will be unforgettable.
Morgott, the Omen King
The true essence of Margit, whom you encounter at the beginning. Morgott has more health and stronger attacks. He uses melee attacks and spells, making him very dangerous. Be sure to summon the phantom Melina before the battle. As soon as you notice the phantom is almost dead, summon spirits from the ashes to continue distracting Morgott. Use the spacious arena for healing.
Fire Giant
One of the toughest bosses in the game. The giant has a massive amount of health, two phases, and incredible damage. In the first phase, attack his left leg. In the second phase, the leg will be severed, and the giant will be immobile. But don't rejoice yet — the boss will now roll across the arena and release fiery spheres. Nonetheless, the second phase is significantly easier than the first.
Godskin Duo
This pair has been a challenge for many players and is also one of the toughest bosses in the game. They can be found in Crumbling Farum Azula. Both creatures share a single health bar, and killing each significantly reduces health. However, after death, the creatures resurrect, complicating the task. Both participate in the battle, so choose to attack the one easier to kill with your class. Mages will find the battle relatively easier.
Gurranq Beast Clergyman and Maliketh: The Black Blade
This is a single boss with two forms. In the first phase, you will face Gurranq Beast Clergyman, who should not pose significant problems. The boss is slow, so simply maintain distance or get behind it. However, the nightmare begins with the second phase…
The second form, Maliketh: The Black Blade, appears. A fast and dangerous entity, it will cause significant pain. It attacks in melee and so frequently that there's almost no time for counterattacks. Remember, its attacks sometimes pass through columns, so don't rely on them for cover.
Godfrey — First Elden Lord
Here you finally face Godfrey head-on. The enemy's strikes have become swift and sharp, with jumps and powerful area attacks that can stun or burn you. Between attacks, you'll have time for quick strikes, so the boss isn't as difficult as it may seem. But Godfrey doesn’t die completely and will resurrect, posing a new challenge.
Hoarah Loux
And here is the reincarnation of Godfrey — Hoarah Loux. Loux deals melee blows and tries to catch his opponent between them. If caught, he'll lift you into the air and start slamming your character against the ground, inflicting massive damage. Additionally, his area attacks are now much stronger and faster.
In close combat, parrying such fast and frequent attacks will be difficult. Dodging is also tough, so the "hit-and-run" tactic is recommended. For mages, the fight will be easier.
Radagon of the Golden Order and Elden Beast
We've reached the final story boss. The battle with Radagon and his second phase — Elden Beast — is a unique kind of pain. Some players have found it easier to defeat the legendary Malenia than this. The problem lies not so much in Radagon's attacks, but in the completely open arena.
The enemy's attacks are very swift and deal immense damage. Radagon can teleport and strike over such a large area that dodging becomes impossible. Radagon is vulnerable to rot and frost, and you should protect yourself from holy and physical damage. Also, summon the best phantom you have.
In the second phase, Radagon transforms into Elden Beast, and you're still in shock. At this point, you might naively hope that the second phase is easier. Elden Beast is huge and slow, but speed isn't necessary here. The second phase's powerful magic means any mistake could be fatal.
The arena remains open, so it will be a struggle. The Beast will release homing spells at you. Defeating the monster completes the story, but the bosses don’t end there. We'll list the most interesting and challenging of the side bosses.
Mohg, Lord of Blood
A very dangerous and difficult boss, Mohg proves to be stronger than some of the story bosses. You can find him in the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum, accessible only through a portal in the Mountaintops of the Giants.
Mohg utilizes explosive blood damage, so each attack could send you to your grace. Additionally, the enemy can heal itself and inflict bleeding on you. Prepare thoroughly and do not rush into the encounter with Mohg.
Mohg, the Omen
Mohg, the Omen is a more challenging version of Mohg, Lord of Blood. This boss is considered one of the hardest in the game, as it has a vast amount of health and high resistance to almost all types of attacks. Your only hope for victory is slow melee attacks that deal minimal damage. Attack Mohg when the enemy swings, but as soon as you see a spell being prepared, run and hide.
Alecto — Black Knife Ringleader
A real nightmare for mages and fans of light weapons. Alecto is almost elusive and quickly closes the distance. The only way to win is to use heavy weapons or stunning spells to disrupt the boss's balance. Alecto has very low poise. But if you constantly launch into attack, the enemy will use whirlwind attacks more frequently. Alecto resides in Ringleader Evergaol.
Dragonlord Placidusax
This boss could easily have been a story boss. The immense two-headed dragon will fray your nerves with its colossal area damage. However, Dragonlord can be considered a test of caution. If you avoid its attacks, the dragon can be relatively easily defeated.
Malenia — Blade of Miquella
We're finishing with the most difficult boss in the game. This is evidenced by player statistics and reviews — Malenia often remains undefeated by the majority of gamers. The boss's attacks are so fast and deadly that you have to act instinctively. In close combat, the enemy's blows are impossible to interrupt, and extremely difficult to dodge. The blade whirlwind drives players to quit the game in anger. And this is just the first phase.
In the second phase, Malenia also uses magic, after which the arena becomes covered in rot. It's a true Hell! Additionally, Malenia can fly and dive into the player's head, inflicting massive damage.
This is not an exhaustive list of all the bosses in the game. In the Elden Ring, there are enough strong creatures, and many of them could be added to the boss list. However, we have covered the story antagonists and the most prominent representatives of the optional bosses.
