Pokémon Go features a vast variety of creatures: Flying, Water, Electric, Fire, Steel. Each of them has its own unique characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses. Today, however, we will talk about one of the most powerful and versatile Pokémon — Gyarados.

General description and evolution

Gyarados is a Flying + Water type fighter. This fierce and majestic dragon resembles mythical creatures from the Far East. It evolves from one of the most unexpected beings — Magikarp.

The irony of evolution lies in the fact that Magikarp is naturally one of the most harmless creatures in the seas and oceans. Predators frequently hunt them, and the small fish has little to defend itself with. But everything changes when it reaches level 20.

Gyarados on Pokémon GO HubGyarados is the complete opposite of Magikarp — it's a formidable creature, aggressive and destructive. There is even a legend in the world that if this creature appears near the shore, it signifies that war is coming.

The character resembles a giant serpent, over six meters long and weighing around 235 kilograms. It has a volatile nature — if provoked, it will start destroying everything around it, and in its fury, it could even destroy an entire city! However, trainers who manage to control the Pokémon's temper gain a loyal and formidable companion. It's no wonder this fighter is considered one of the strongest.

Characteristics and skills

Gyarados is listed as number 130 in the Pokédex. The Pokémon possesses well-balanced stats:

  • Defense: 186;
  • Attack: 237;
  • Health: 216;
  • Catch rate: 8%;
  • Dodge rate: 7%.

Its attacks perfectly align with its nature, reflecting the full power of the Pokémon. It delivers quick and decisive strikes while skillfully dodging opponents' attacks. In battle, this character wreaks havoc, making it nearly impossible to stop.

Skills in Pokémon Go, like many other animals, are divided into fast and powerful attacks. Among the fast attacks, trainers should pay attention to Dragon Breath — this Dragon type move deals 12–15 DPS and is highly effective against Dragon, Steel, Fairy classes.

Other notable moves include:

  • Bite – 12 DPS, 0.5 CD;
  • Dragon Pulse – 13.89 DPS, 3.60 CD;
  • Hydro Pump – 15.79 DPS, 3.80 CD.

As a Water type Pokémon, Gyarados is weak against Rock and Electric warriors. However, in a fight, this sea serpent has some powerful counters. But the trainer must be extremely cautious to prevent the fighter from losing control and disobeying commands.

Where to find and how to train

According to the lore, as mentioned earlier, the hero is rarely encountered in the wild. It dwells in the depths and rarely interacts with humans. But if you're very lucky, you might find one near rivers, pools, beaches, ports — in general, anywhere with bodies of water.

Obtaining Gyarados in Pokémon Go is also challenging. It won't hatch from an egg, no matter how much we might wish it would. To evolve Magikarp into Gyarados, a trainer needs 400 candies. This is quite a lot, even for experienced players, but those who want to add this fierce warrior to their team and achieve it, have often benefited from events and resource management.

Red Gyarados

This is a special form. While the usual version has a blue-green coloration typical of Water types, there is also a more aggressive Red Gyarados.

This variant exists because Magikarp was the first Pokémon in Pokémon Go to receive a "Shiny version". If you’re lucky enough to catch such a creature, you’ll get the red version, which can impress both friends and foes in the arenas.

It’s important to note that the stats of the Shiny Magikarp and Gyarados are no different from their standard versions. It's mostly an interesting recolor, but trying your luck to find a Shiny Magikarp is worth it.

Why you should get Gyarados

Evolving this warrior isn’t cheap, and many trainers have reasonable doubts about spending so many resources to obtain this character. But we want to dispel these doubts, as the sea serpent is one of the most balanced and versatile fighters to add to your collection.

Earlier, we described stats and the method of obtaining it, its features, and characteristic traits. But it's also important to note that in Pokémon Go, there are no ultimate Pokémon: every action has a counteraction. However, you can be confident that Gyarados won’t let you down in battle.
