Negative news continues to surround Ubisoft, as the company faces tough times. Another troubling headline appeared after top management of the company decided to remove fully remote working. While they believe that bringing staff back to the office will enhance creativity and improve team interactions, people are not happy with that. Staff in different branches went on strike. For example, in France over 700 employees disagree with return-to-office policies and wages.
This change has already led to several specialists from Ubisoft's Milan branch setting to leave the company at the end of October 2024. During the Covid-19 pandemic, many employees moved from central expensive Milan to more affordable areas. This move allowed them to start families and live more comfortably. With Ubisoft’s return-to-office policy shift, many employees now find themselves in a difficult situation. To continue working at Ubisoft and attending the office, they would need to relocate and make significant life changes.
Among those leaving Ubisoft Milan are Narrative Director Andrea Babich, Senior 3D Artist Salvatore Dittrani, and Lead Engine Programmer Riccardo Stucchi. According to sources, they are likely to join Day 4 Night, a studio led by Davide Soliani, former Creative Director of Mario + Rabbids. Soliani left Ubisoft in July 2024.
Employees in various locations continue to strike, hoping for a revision of the working conditions. This situation adds yet another challenge amidst Ubisoft's ongoing crisis.
