With the start of the second season in Marvel Rivals, a new tank has been added—Emma Frost! The stunning telepath immediately won the hearts of many players, and not just because of her combat effectiveness. In this guide, we will explore her abilities and discuss the best ways to play her. We’ll also cover her associated Team-Up.

What abilities does Emma Frost have?

Let’s start with her stats. Emma has 550 HP, and her speed is 6 m/s. The seasonal bonus adds an extra 100 HP, bringing her total to 650 HP. This is very useful for a tank.

Her normal attack is a beam that deals damage at a distance of up to 15 meters. When attacking with it, her charge meter fills up. The more it fills, the higher the damage of the attack will be later. With an empty meter, the damage is 70/s, but with 100 charge units, it increases to 150/s. If she attacks opponents or misses for 3 seconds, the charge will deplete very quickly.

The charge accumulation depends on the target being attacked:

  • Against a hero: 10/s;
  • Against a crystal: 15/s;
  • Against structures: 5/s;
  • Against a shield: 10/s.

Psychic Spear creates a crystal when it hits an opponent. The crystal appears closer to the opponent than to you, but if you’re at maximum range when it hits, the crystal will be equidistant from both of you.

The crystal’s HP is 25% of the target’s current HP. It deals 5 damage per hit to the enemy, and when destroyed, it inflicts an additional 25% of the target’s maximum HP. If the opponent moves out of a 15-meter radius around the crystal, it will disappear (this is not considered destruction).

The percentage-based damage is a great help in destroying enemy tanks. It can also be used to easily finish off opponents, as the crystal will break quickly when their XP is low. The downside is that hitting with this ability can be difficult, especially against small and fast targets.

Mind's Aegis is a shield that can be placed up to 40 meters away from you. While holding the button, you can move it, and to set it in place, you need to release the button. While moving the shield, you can quickly reposition it by looking at the ground or nearby objects.

Mind's Aegis has 500 HP. It regenerates at 70 HP/s until it is set. You can remove it by pressing "F".

Emma Frost has two forms: normal and diamond. In the diamond form, she takes 30% less damage and gains immunity to control effects, and her abilities change to different ones. This is her main feature, and it shapes her gameplay.

The heroine switches to diamond form by pressing "Shift" and stays in it for 8 seconds. She can exit it at any time by pressing the same key again.

Her beam attack is replaced by punches. The first two punches deal 50 damage each, the third one deals 70 damage, and the fourth one deals 80 damage! This combination is enough to kill most support characters and DD.

The right mouse button is replaced by a kick in a 5-meter radius, dealing 50 damage and knocking enemies back by 10 meters. A knocked-back opponent who hits a wall will take an additional 100 damage!

"E" is replaced by a dash. If it hits an opponent, Emma grabs them and throws them to the ground behind her. This deals only 30 damage, but it cancels many abilities that the opponent might have been about to use. Additionally, after such a turn, she can push the opponent toward her team using the right mouse button.

We’ve covered her skills in diamond form. Now, let’s move on to her ultimate. Psionic Seduction deals 80 damage/s in an area in front of her at a distance of 30 meters for 6 seconds. From 10 to 30 meters, the damage decreases by up to 50%.

Opponents caught in this area cannot use their ultimates. Additionally, crystal markers appear over their HP bars. When the markers are full, the targets lose control completely and begin to move toward Emma, unable to use any abilities.

What is Emma Frost’s Team-Up?

New Team-Ups have been added, including one featuring Emma. When she is in the team, Psylocke and Magneto gain an additional ability activated with the "C" key.

When used, a clone of the character appears. The clone mirrors the abilities you use, except for ultimates. For example, if Magneto gives a shield to an ally while the clone is active, the copy will give a shield to Magneto himself. For both heroes, the main benefit is the extra damage. Additionally, opponents may confuse you with the clone, which is especially helpful for Psylocke.

Tips for Playing as Emma Frost

She is a solid second tank in a team. Emma deals considerable damage and can dive into fights, but shouldn’t be treated as a full-on flanker due to her limited mobility. Only the dash in diamond form allows her to escape a crowd of enemies — and even then, only across a short distance.

It’s important not to place the shield carelessly. It’s a life-saving ability that can prevent your own or an ally’s death. It doesn’t have enough HP to block a path for a long time. A good strategy is to place it in front of you while using your ultimate.

In diamond form, it’s best to attack opponents with low health — they will go down quickly. As for tanks, it’s more effective to knock them toward your team with a kick. Of course, you can first use "E" to spawn a crystal, then switch to diamond form and strike both the crystal and the enemy — but this is a complex and lengthy maneuver.

Someone like Venom can easily escape. Moreover, tanks are usually being healed. A general rule: eliminate support characters first. Without them, damage dealers and tanks won’t last long.

Emma’s ultimate is very effective against enemy supports, as it prevents them from using their ultimates to save the team. This applies mainly to Luna, Snow, Mantis, and Adam Warlock, since they practically make it impossible for their allies to be sent back to respawn.

Don’t try to hit flying heroes with the beam on maps with open skies. The beam’s range is often much shorter than the altitude those characters can reach. In enclosed areas, you can easily take out pesky flyers — but those types of maps rarely see them played.

Emma Frost turned out to be a very interesting and well-balanced hero. Her abilities can be combined in various ways, and she’s capable of both defending the team and dealing solid damage. But she has her weaknesses: poor mobility, a medium-range beam, and some abilities that are difficult to use. Landing Psychic Spear in the chaos of battle takes a lot of practice.
