The people love you, lord! It's so tempting to hear such a phrase in this game, but gaining the approval of the residents isn't as easy as it seems. One of the main problems in the early stages of the game is homelessness.
Your settlers find themselves in the middle of fields, forests, with not a trace of civilization around. Instead of a roof over their heads, there's only a tent! This situation will quickly become unsatisfactory for people, and then you'll have to build houses.
Homelessness in Manor Lords
Every month, new residents will come to the settlement. The growth of the village depends on the general level of satisfaction of the population and the availability of free housing. If there's a shortage of houses, there's no need to expect newcomers, as the starting tent will soon be destroyed! The game calculates the number of available housing so that the user doesn't have to count everything themselves. You can see this on the top panel.
If there's more housing than needed, the number will be marked with a "+". This is very good, so we advise building several houses in reserve. Their maintenance costs nothing, and empty houses don't consume fuel. To find out if anyone lives in a particular hut, click on it and select the "People" tab.
Families will always move into empty houses, so there won't be homeless people. However, there's one problem...
Why aren't people moving into houses in Manor Lords?
It may happen that families arriving in the village won't move into available housing. Even if you have a whole block of vacant cottages to choose from, these stubborn folks will prefer to live on the streets!
The reason actually lies not with homeless residents. This is an issue we've already discussed in an article about this game.
The problem is easily solved — save the game, then reload the saved file. After that, the residents will finally settle into the new houses.
