Red, fluffy creatures have long infiltrated the gaming industry and secured their honorable place among other animals. The universe of pocket monsters, of course, could not ignore these charming, cunning faces. Several heroes are inspired by these cute creatures, their behavior, and their character traits. In some cases, cultural context plays a role, as foxes are an important part of Japanese mythology.

In this article, we’ll discuss the ten best Pokémon resembling these predatory animals.

Don't miss another one of our fluffy collections dedicated to Pokémon cats.

Braixen

The most noticeable part of this remarkable creature's design is the twig in its tail. It looks like it’s stuck in its fur, but Braixen actually uses it as a kind of wand, fighting with it in battles, warning its kin of danger.

The Pokémon has a bright, somewhat aggressive color scheme, and its face, ears, tail evoke fox-like charm, grace. However, for many trainers, this isn't enough, and Braixen is rarely included in teams due to its mediocre stats, with only its special attack being high. In battle, this becomes one of the main advantages of the white-and-gold creature, allowing it to deal significant damage with moves like "Flamethrower", "Heat Wave", "Fire Blast".

Eevee

A legend among all pocket monsters, this fox Pokémon has been beloved by fans since its debut in the first generation and has since become an integral part of the series and one of its main mascots. The small creature with a fluffy tail, sharp ears seems made for admiration rather than battles.

Its low stats prevent it from being an effective team fighter, but its seven evolutions are quite capable of dealing with adversaries. Each "Eeveelution" (as they are called in the community) has impressive stats and a dominant type reflected in its design.

Jolteon, for instance, a terror for Water + Flying types, boasts high special attack, several excellent skills, and its strikes are charged with 10,000 volts. Nonetheless, Eevee is friendly, curious, easily bonds with trainers, and has a whole army of fans.

Zorua

This dark little creature is shy, timid, so it has learned to compensate for its shortcomings by creating illusions. In this, it has achieved some success and can sometimes even take on human form, although its sticking-out tail still gives it away. Zorua often transforms into children, causing mischief, playing pranks.

This fox Pokémon dislikes battles and often hides from enemies, so it can't contribute much as a fighter. Its stats are low, and it lacks outstanding abilities. However, fans love this tiny troublemaker not for its combat skills.

Fennekin

Clearly inspired by the fennec fox, as evident in its name + appearance, one of Fennekin's main (large) features is its bright orange ears, which can release hot air to burn, repel enemies. Due to its fiery nature, it is difficult to get along with.

However, if a trainer manages to befriend this charming creature, it will be loyal. In Pokémon X and Y, it serves as one of the protagonist's first partners and is a decent fighter in the early stages of the game despite its modest size.

Nickit

Cunning, sly, Nickit loves to steal food, and its soft paws, flexible body allow it to move almost silently. Thanks to its bushy tail, it literally sweeps away its tracks and always remains unnoticed.

However, this fox Pokémon breaks the rules to survive, not for pleasure. This is why the fighter's image is inspired not by the classic red fox, but by cross + silver fox subspecies, which have similar patterns, coloration. Due to its lifestyle, all its abilities are geared towards avoiding threats or battles, making it unsuitable for all teams, but still useful to all trainers, as it evolves into Thievul, which we will discuss below.

Thievul

This character is no longer as simple as its previous evolutionary form! The Pokémon looks like it's plotting something dark, and the mask on its face only enhances its cunning, mysterious appearance.

This fox like Pokémon continues Nickit's work, stealing food and eggs, leaving marks on its victims, and lying in wait for the right moment. Thievul’s abilities embody agility and criminal activity: "Run Away", "Stakeout", and "Thief" allow it to steal items, escape from battle, and deal additional damage.

Ninetales

This large, graceful, and elegant creature evokes Japanese mythology, specifically the legendary kitsune, a multi-tailed fox capable of human transformation. It is said that Ninetales is a reincarnation of nine saints and can understand human speech.

Those who disturb this majestic being will be cursed for a thousand years. Beyond its lofty image, Ninetales has impressive stats +powerful abilities like "Fire Blast", "Inferno", "Incinerate", making it an excellent addition to any trainer’s collection. For those who prefer a winter aesthetic, there is the Alolan variant, in which its fur is entirely white.

Delphox

Unlike Braixen, who had a twig in its tail, Delphox uses a stick as a magical wand to conjure fiery whirlwinds that can burn enemies. This character resembles a fiery wizard more than a fox-like Pokémon, but it retains the characteristic face + tail.

Additionally, Delphox is known for its unmatched intelligence and nobility, ready to protect its trainer even in deadly situations. With its Fire/Psychic types, this fiery hero uses various elemental combinations in battle, such as "Fire Blast", "Psyshock", "Psybeam", "Fire Spin", ensuring enemies will avoid this magical fox.

Vulpix

The tiny Vulpix evolves into the mighty Ninetales, but this small, cute fox is far from simple, harmless. Inside, it harbors a flame that it breathes out, making it resemble a dragon. As the character ages, it grows more tails.

Players can usually find this little one on grassy plains and can only admire it, as it is not very suited for battle and useful only in rare situations. However, it's worth keeping and protecting this fighter, as it evolves into the powerful nine-tailed hero.

Zoroark

The last on our list, but not the least in terms of impressive design, is Zoroark. This dark fox-like creature lives in packs and is ready to sacrifice itself to save its kin. For protection, it uses its innate ability to create illusions of such scale and realism that the forests, mountains it creates seem indistinguishable from the real thing.

But that's not all! Zoroark can transform into a human and speak clearly with others. With such impressive traits, it also boasts high battle stats, particularly in speed, regular, special attacks, making it an excellent choice for an aggressive strategy.

The abilities "Illusion", "U-turn", "Knock Off" allow the trainer to win almost any battle with this pet. The most exciting is the Hisuian form, in which the character looks less like a cunning red fox but gains one of the best designs in the series.

Among the thousands of pocket monsters, there aren’t many creatures inspired by foxes. Their number is compensated by originality — each one listed here has a unique and unparalleled design. Eevee, for instance, has become a fan favorite. Do you have any favorites among these unusual Pokémon? Be sure to write in the comments!
