The portal HLTV.org conducted research with the aim of identifying the greatest player of the CS:GO era. Based on the analysis of various statistical indicators, the authors concluded that the status is held by esports athlete Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev.

The journalists used three criteria to determine the strongest player. They took into account his individual level at the peak, how long the contender was among the best players and was ranked in the top 20 at the end of each year, as well as his team achievements and contribution to victories in tournaments through MVP titles.

The authors of the material noted that s1mple has won the most MVP awards at tournaments and received two main trophies: a major victory and the Intel Grand Slam prize. The main competitors for Kostylev for the title of the best player in CS:GO history were Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut and Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz. However, the former started performing at the top level significantly later than S1mple, and the latter does not match up in terms of statistical indicators.
