Daigo “The Beast” Umehara just dropped a bomb at Red Bull Kumite. After getting knocked out by NoahTheProdigy and finishing 9th, Daigo surprised everyone by saying he’s done with streaming for now—and he’s going all-in on competing in Street Fighter 6 again.
Yeah, that’s right. The same Daigo who’s a literal legend in the fighting game world. He’s got six EVO titles, a Guinness World Record for most Street Fighter tournament wins, and of course, Evo Moment 37—that insane parry comeback that every fighting game fan knows.
Thing is, lately Daigo’s been more focused on content creation than grinding tournaments. Even though he played in Street Fighter V and SF6, he wasn’t really in full “beast mode.” But now? That’s about to change.
At 43 (almost 44), he’s jumping back into the competitive scene, which is kinda wild considering most of his opponents are half his age. Reaction times usually start slowing down after your mid-20s, but Daigo’s shown time and time again that he can still hang with the best.
So yeah, this comeback’s gonna be interesting. He says he wants revenge on Noah eventually, and fans are hyped to see him take the game seriously again. Whether he dominates or not, it’s cool to see a legend return to the stage.
