With the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows just weeks away, IGN has released an ultimate recap of the franchise’s sprawling timeline, summarizing every major plot twist from over a decade of  Assassin’s Creed serier games. Despite the series now featuring more than a dozen mainline titles, the entire chronology of fits neatly into a 24-minute presentation. This brevity is unsurprising given that much of the gameplay revolves around open-world exploration rather than lengthy cinematic sequences.

The timeline begins simply enough, taking players through ancient Greece, Egypt, and Britain before venturing into the Holy Land. However, as the series progresses, the narrative shifts increasingly toward events in the modern world, complicating the storyline further. Starting with Assassin’s Creed Shadows developers aim to restore balance between historical and modern gameplay. Future installments are expected to place greater emphasis on contemporary storylines, though specific details remain under wraps.

Set to launch on March 20, 2025, Assassin’s Creed Shadows marks the series’ first foray into Japan, promising a fresh setting and new gameplay mechanics. Fans can look forward to uncovering how this entry will reshape the overarching narrative of the Assassin-Templar conflict.
