Sony pulled the Helldivers 2 out of the Steam store in over 170 countries. This change occurred amidst a scandal related to Sony's demand for mandatory linkage to a PSN account to play Helldivers 2 on PC. In some countries, registering this account is impossible. Within two days, the action game received nearly 200 thousand negative reviews.

The issue with linking a Steam account to a PSN profile is that in many countries, creating a PSN account is not possible, yet the game was being sold there. Now, these users are losing access to the game.

On the Helldivers 2 subreddit, several posts appeared with screenshots of successful refunds, although there were also those whom Steam support denied. Despite spending dozens of hours in the shooter, players who received refunds managed to do so. 

It seems that Steam support is trying to take the situation into account and approach it with understanding. One of Valve's support employees called the approved refund an exception to the rules.

Arrowhead studio head Johan Pilestedt is trying to communicate with players through social media. Pilestedt is clearly dissatisfied with the situation, but he also noted that despite Sony making the final decision, the negative reviews and player dissatisfaction have become arguments in negotiations.

There is no final decision made. We'll have to wait and see how the story unfolds, but things are not looking very good for the really popular title.
