Nintendo has addressed concerns about save functionality for The Legend of Zelda series on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Recently, the company updated its eShop description for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Switch 2 Edition . Initially, players were alarmed when Breath of the Wild was marked as a game that does not support cloud saves via Nintendo Switch Online. However, Nintendo has now provided detailed information about how data transfer works between console versions.
According to the revised eShop message, save files created in the second slot on the Switch 2 version cannot be transferred back to the original Nintendo Switch. This indicates partial incompatibility between save data across different hardware iterations. Despite this limitation, cloud backups remain operational for supported games.
Similar clarifications have been added for other titles, including Donkey Kong Bananza for Switch 2. In contrast, Breath of the Wild still carries its previous warning regarding cloud saves. Reports about potential issues with cloud functionality first emerged in early April.
The enhanced versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are scheduled for release on June 5, alongside the launch of the Switch 2. Standalone editions will be available for $70, offering a complete experience for new players or those who do not already own the original games.
