Sony is currently in a challenging position after its plans to introduce 12 game services by 2025 failed. The company recently abruptly canceled nine projects, which infuriated the players.

In 2022, Jim Ryan, then president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, announced the company's plans to release 12 game services by 2025. This move was supposed to be a response to the changing realities of the gaming market. But many gamers were not in favor of Sony's new strategy, fearing that the company was forgetting about single-player games. Against this backdrop, Sony assured that it would continue to work on such projects, but the reality turned out to be different.

It is now known that 9 out of 12 anticipated projects have been canceled. In addition to the successful Helldivers 2, which attracted millions of players, the company has closed Concord and Payback. In addition, such high-profile projects as The Last of Us: Factions, Spider-Man: The Great Web and a game based on the God of War universe, which was developed by Bluepoint Games, have been canceled.

Here's Sony's list of canceled games:

  1. Concord (didn't live up to expectations).
  2. God of War by Bluepoint Games
  3. Bend Studio's multiplayer game
  4. The Last of Us: Factions
  5. Spider-Man: The Great Web by Insomniac Games
  6. Twisted Metal by Firesprite
  7. Unannounced fantasy game from London Studio
  8. Payback by Bungie
  9. Networking project from Deviation Games

Almost all of the canceled projects were part of Sony's ambitious strategy to get into the games-services market. And grokies are expressing their displeasure, saying the company got too caught up in the trend, forgetting its roots. Projects from Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games will now have to wait at least a few years.
