CD Projekt RED has released the free official REDkit editor for The Witcher 3. Within a day, modders have already ported Vizima from the first game into the world and combined the location into one continuous map.

The author combined the Vizima dike, temple quarter, trade quarter, and Old Vizima into one location and removed the loading screens between districts. Players can walk through the deserted streets of the capital of Temeria – adding NPCs was not possible.

AngryCatster encountered numerous problems while creating the mod: a large number of textures are not working properly, it's possible to go outside the world boundaries, and collision sometimes disappears.

The modder explained that in REDkit for the second game, it was possible to export all level geometry into a common format, which could then be easily imported into The Witcher 2. However, materials had to be transferred manually, which took a lot of time. Loading locations or any resource from the sequel into The Witcher 3, however, produces an error.

Along with the free REDkit mod editor, the authors added support for the Steam Workshop. Now, gamers can download modifications directly from Valve's store, rather than through Nexus Mods or other sites.
