The huge scale events, such as Microsoft acquiring Activision Blizzard, are not only taking much time, but have a long flow of consequences. For example, the head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, sent an internal letter announcing another wave of layoffs at the company.

About 650 employees will be leaving the company, with most of them from the recently acquired Activision Blizzard. These layoffs are required to optimize the structure and improve business operations. Most of those being let go are from the corporate segment and the support department, meaning the process will not affect upcoming games or lead to studio closures.

The letter also hints that this may not be the last wave of layoffs: Spencer emphasized that Microsoft expects profits from Xbox, and the merger of the companies has led to the duplication of certain positions.

The previous wave of layoffs at Microsoft took place in January 2024, during which 1,900 Xbox employees were let go. Spencer also emphasized that the company would provide financial support to those affected and ensure all necessary severance payments are made.
