Sony Corporation has released its financial results for the fourth quarter of the 2024 fiscal year, which ended on March 31, 2025. The report highlights key metrics related to PlayStation 5 sales, game content, and player engagement.

During the reporting quarter, the company shipped 2.8 million PS5 units—1.7 million fewer than in the same period in 2023. Despite the decline, cumulative global sales of the console since its November 2020 launch have reached 77.8 million units. This allows the PS5 to gradually narrow the gap with its predecessor, the PlayStation 4, which has sold over 117 million units in total.

As for game software, 76.1 million copies of PS4 and PS5 titles were sold during the quarter—3.5 million more than the previous year. However, interest in Sony’s first-party exclusives declined: the company’s in-house studios sold just 5.9 million copies compared to 12.3 million in last year’s report. Of particular note is the share of digital sales—80% of the total volume. This figure confirms the growing popularity of disc-free gaming among players.

Additionally, the report notes an increase in PlayStation Network’s user base: monthly active users reached 124 million, up by 6 million compared to the previous year.

In summary, despite lower console shipments and reduced demand for Sony’s exclusives, the PlayStation ecosystem continues to show positive growth, driven by rising digital sales and an expanding base of active users.
