While we often watch esports competitions with awe, where players compete for significant prizes under immense pressure, sometimes situations arise where real lives are at stake. Slightly more than a month ago, Nick Coldstar, an ex-commentator, known for his work in League of Legends, saved two lives on the Adriatic coast in Montenegro. A young family had been standing on a platform near the sea when a large wave swept the father and son into the water. The mother jumped in to help but found herself unable to bring them to safety.
There were no lifeguards around and no one else to call for help. Nick Coldstar, who was nearby with his stepfather, sprang into action. Armed only with whatever was at hand, they both jumped in, rescuing the mother and child. It was a long and tiring battle against the sea. There were moments when they came close to drowning themselves, but Coldstar's strong swimming skills, along with a bit of luck, were on his side.
The commentator himself suffered a pinched nerve and was left emotionally shaken. His stepfather, the mother, and the boy emerged relatively unscathed. Tragically, the father of this family did not survive, likely suffering a fatal blow to the head on the rocks before Coldstar could reach them.
In the digital world, we often talk about legends, but Nick Coldstar has shown us what it truly means to be a hero in the real world. Bravo!
