Former Rockstar developer Obbe Vermeij, who contributed to GTA: San Andreas and GTA 4, commented on recent reports about a potential delay of Grand Theft Auto 6.

Although the rumors were debunked by Jason Schreier, Vermeij recalled the time when the studio was preparing for GTA 4 launch in 2007. However, four months before its release, it was postponed to the second quarter of the 2008.

The developer explained that with GTA 6, it won't be until May of next year that the team will know for sure whether the game will launch as planned or not. Therefore, the risk of a delay still exists, as Rockstar will not release the game unless they are fully satisfied with its quality.

Vermeij added that Rockstar has nothing to worry about since GTA 6 has no real competitors, and it will sell for more than 10 years. He also emphasized that his comments were purely his own opinion, as he had not discussed the matter with anyone at Rockstar.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for release in fall 2025 on consoles, with no estimated release date for the PC version. Experts and Vermeij himself believe that the console versions of GTA 6 may face some performance issues.
