In an unexpected show of boldness, indie game publisher Devolver Digital has once again reiterated its intention to release its upcoming game on the same day as the most anticipated title of the decade — Grand Theft Auto VI. While Rockstar recently confirmed that GTA 6 is now set for release in May 2026 instead of fall 2025, Devolver Digital declared it has no plans to shift its schedule.

Sharing the update via its official X account, the studio humorously acknowledged the massive shadow cast by GTA 6 but stood firm on its original tongue-in-cheek announcement: “We’re still launching our game the same day.” The tone may have been light, but the commitment appears serious.

Devolver Digital Wont Back Down Indie Publisher to Launch Game Alongside GTA 6Image: x.comWhile other studios scramble to avoid clashing with Rockstar’s juggernaut — a move often likened to commercial suicide — Devolver Digital is embracing the challenge. Whether it’s a bold marketing tactic, a meta-commentary on industry trends, or sheer defiance, one thing is clear: the publisher refuses to be intimidated.

Rockstar, for its part, has explained that the delay comes from a desire to ensure quality and polish, aiming to deliver a landmark gaming experience. Still, the revised timeline has brought relief to many smaller developers and publishers who were bracing for the storm. Devolver, however, isn’t running — quite the opposite.
