The recent announcement of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) being delayed until May 2026 didn’t come as a surprise to everyone — especially not to those who’ve been closely following the game’s development. Renowned gaming journalist Jason Schreier, currently with Bloomberg, has confirmed that insiders at Rockstar Games had long since abandoned any hope of launching the title in late 2025.

In a recent statement, Schreier noted that the delay was essentially a foregone conclusion due to the sheer volume of unfinished work:

No one I’ve spoken to at Rockstar believed that a fall 2025 release was realistic anymore. There’s too much work left, not enough time, and a real desire from leadership to avoid a full-blown crisis. The delay to 2026 felt inevitable — months ago, if not longer.

This insight reinforces what many fans and industry observers have speculated: despite official statements and public optimism, behind the scenes, the pressure and complexity of building the next-generation GTA became overwhelming.

Rockstar’s decision to push back the release reflects not only the scale of the project but also the studio’s commitment to delivering a polished, ambitious open-world experience — even if it means keeping players waiting longer than expected.
