While the next Nintendo gaming console is not officially announced yet, it seems like everyone knows it will happen sooner rather than later. The company's speakers also provide valuable information that confirms rather than contradicts this feeling. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa shared details about backward compatibility between the current Switch console and its upcoming successor in a special message.

According to him, Switch software will be supported on the next-generation console, as will the Nintendo Switch Online service. No further information was given in the statement, but Nintendo noted that more details will be shared later.

In the summer of 2023, the company discussed using existing user accounts to enable a "smooth transition" from the Switch, indirectly confirming backward compatibility between consoles. In a presentation for its latest financial report, Nintendo expressed its intent to strengthen partnerships with third-party publishers and reminded fans of games announced for 2025, including Metroid Prime 4.
