Renowned author George R.R. Martin, who helped create the mythology of Elden Ring has hinted at progress in the development of a film adaptation based on the game. However, it seems unlikely that Martin will play an active role in its creation.
Image: imdb.com During the IGN Fan Fest 2025, Martin sidestepped questions about a potential sequel to the game but touched on the topic of the original’s film adaptation:
“Well, I can’t say much, but there are talks about making a movie based on Elden Ring We’ll see if this [movie] happens and how much I’ll be involved. I’m years behind on my latest book, so that limits what else I can take on.”
Martin had previously mentioned the possibility of a Elden Ring movie, which was also acknowledged by game director Hidetaka Miyazaki. However, Miyazaki noted that FromSoftware would need a “strong” cinematic partner to bring the project to life.
While Martin might be interested in contributing to the film, his focus remains on completing The Winds of Winter a novel he has been working on for over 13 years. In late 2022, he admitted that he may not finish the book before his passing, though he remains optimistic and continues writing within the Game of Thrones universe.
