Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft's gaming division, recently appeared on the Gamertag Radio podcast, where he provided a broader perspective on the company's recent decision to release its games on other platforms. According to him, the industry has changed in such a way that platform choice has taken a backseat, and games have come to the forefront.

Microsoft even launched a promotional campaign stating that smartphones and PCs are "also Xbox" since they support Microsoft games. However, some players became concerned, wondering whether this meant the company was shifting its focus away from its consoles. Spencer quickly reassured them that this was not the case. Microsoft will continue to actively work on Xbox, but Spencer emphasized that he wants people to be able to freely choose their platform, and Xbox should be able to compete on a level playing field.

You can say that Spencer was influenced by Gabe Newell and Valve, who have consistently promoted the idea that games are more important than the platforms on which they are released. The only question now is how competitive Xbox will be in such an open field, but only time will tell.

In the same podcast, Spencer also stated that Xbox plans to release its games on the Nintendo Switch 2. According to him, the console is set to be successful.
