While many fans are excited to play the former PlayStation exclusives on PC, there is one trouble that really bothers them. The fact that you need a login to your PSN account to play even single player games has become a major issue for those interested in PlayStation titles on Windows.

In many regions, creating a PSN profile requires a VPN, and even if successful, the company’s games aren’t available on Steam in those areas, forcing players to resort to third-party marketplaces. Despite these inconveniences and the resulting discontent, Sony doesn’t appear to be changing its stance.

Responding to investor questions, COO Hiroki Totoki acknowledged that PSN linking encounters resistance but stated it is necessary to maintain order and security. He discussed the restriction in the context of service-based games but didn’t clarify how mandatory PSN account makes single-player titles like God of War Ragnarök or Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 safer.

Players suspect that Sony is simply trying to boost its monthly active PSN user stats, which it regularly reports.

Unfortunately, this stance is unlikely to change anytime soon, so the gamers would have to take it into account when planning their entertainment.
