Riot Games has introduced an updated user agreement for players across its titles, including League of Legends, Valorant, Wild Rift, and others. The new guidelines, shared by users who received notifications from the company, include hardware bans for both regular players and streamers.

According to the new rules, Riot Games can impose bans not only based on in-game reports but also by monitoring streams of any Riot title. Restrictions may apply to content creators (as well as regular gamers) who, during broadcasts of Riot Games titles, engage in trolling, intentionally leave matches, excessively insult players or viewers, discriminate based on nationality, race, or social status, boost accounts, or participate in criminal activities (such as using cheats, account sales, scamming, and more).

Previously, such severe violations often led to account bans, including on newly created "smurf" accounts, but now Riot Games will be able to issue hardware bans. This is made possible by Vanguard, the anti-cheat system required for Valorant and League of Legends. The restrictions will apply to all accounts linked to the offending hardware, regardless of the specific game where the infraction occurred. The updated rules take effect on December 1, 2024.
