The epic failure of Concord didn't go unnoticed by PlayStation's leadership, and a few months later, we're already seeing some results. Sony has canceled the development of two unannounced service games. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing a company statement.
Both projects were part of PlayStation's strategy to expand its service games. This plan launched a few years ago, but we can't say it brought excellent results. Now, Sony has decided to change its approach.
Bend Studio, known for the zombie action Days Gone, and Bluepoint Games, famous for remakes of Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, were behind these games. The one project at Bluepoint Games was an action game set in the God of War universe.
Sony did not specify whether the cancellations would lead to the closure of the studios or layoffs. This decision clearly ties back to the failure of Concord. The arguably biggest game flop of 2024 was shut down less than a month after its release, despite the significant resources invested in its development. It will be interesting to see PlayStation's next steps.
