Sources of Insider Gaming have revealed the projects that Ubisoft's former developers of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown are now working on.
One of these projects is a remake of the adventure game Rayman, with about a dozen developers from The Lost Crown involved. The original creator, Michel Ancel, has been brought on as a consultant. However, not everyone on the team seems to be happy with Ancel’s involvement, as he was previously accused of toxic leadership at Ubisoft.
Most of the developers, however, have been reassigned to work on Beyond Good and Evil 2, which has been in development for many years. Additionally, a dozen employees are now working on the next Ghost Recon game, known internally as Project Ovr.
Tom Henderson noted that a small number of developers from The Lost Crown were not transferred to these projects, but he is unsure if they were laid off. He mentioned that Ubisoft generally does not fire employees outright, preferring to let their contracts expire. As a result, while the company has not officially announced layoffs over the past year, its workforce has decreased by about a thousand employees.
The decision to disband the The Lost Crown team was made by Ubisoft in May 2024, as the game did not meet expectations. Ubisoft had hoped the game would sell several million copies, comparable to the most successful metroidvanias on the market. By mid-October, sales had reached only one million copies — a significant increase from the initial 300,000 after release, but still far below Ubisoft's target.
