How does the new Azmerian Wisps mechanic work in Path of Exile 2?

These glowing creatures are called Azmerian Wisps, and they are essentially inspired by the well-known will-o’-the-wisps, frequent visitors in fantasy games, books, and films. Yes, just like those that almost drowned Frodo in the swamp! So, be careful around them… And here’s why!
Once the hero enters their line of sight, the wisp will start running away. You’ll need to chase it to keep it in sight, or it will disappear! The task is made easier by the fact that the further you are from it, the slower it moves, but as soon as you get closer, it picks up speed, so don't get too close either. However, catching it would be too easy if it weren’t for the monsters you’ll encounter along the way. The cunning creature not only lures you into a trap but also buffs the enemies in your path, so be cautious!

Depending on the type of wisp, there are variations in the buffs it provides. These range from extra health to enhanced attack. Listing them all isn’t necessary, but the important thing is that the monsters on your path will become stronger. However, the more you kill these powered-up mobs, the better the reward you’ll get at the end of the battle. The goal of the cunning creature is a rare or unique monster, to which it will lead you and possess, granting it new abilities. Some types may even turn a regular monster into a boss! Defeat it to earn valuable loot.

Types of Azmerian Wisps in Path of Exile 2 and the Reward for Defeating Them
Azmerian Wisps are divided into four types:
- Wild. Bear, Ox, and Boar Spirits;
- Vivid. Cat, Stag, and Wolf Spirits;
- Primal. Owl, Primate, and Serpent Spirits;
- Sacred. Wisp of the Spring Hare, Spirit of the Fox.
The last type is the rarest. In addition to this, they also grant enemies special abilities, such as transforming a regular mob into a magical one.
If you did everything correctly, you will receive a reward–a Talisman, a new type of item, which is unique for each of the will-o'-the-wisps. They are inserted into your gear, providing certain bonuses, and are somewhat similar to runes. Currently, the accessories obtained from encounters with this mysterious glow are the most powerful in the game.

How to Find Azmerian Wisps?
Can’t wait to find these glowing lights and claim rare items? Luckily, they appear not only in the Endgame but also in the Campaign, starting from Act 1. Simply explore locations starting with Grelwood and hope for a chance encounter with this mystical light. The task is made a bit easier by the fact that you may come across an NPC named Delwyn, who is also hunting mystical creatures and can assist you.
Additionally, you can find them in the later stages of the game. By properly configuring the Atlas Passive Tree, you will be able to encounter them on the map with 100% certainty. You can also find Precursor Tablets, which, when inserted into Towers, will upgrade surrounding maps. Or you can simply visit the new location, Azmeri Ranges, where several wisps and a unique boss await you.
