The Minecraft community has long learned to automate many processes in the game: from growing wheat to gathering experience. Such autonomous structures require minimal player involvement, yet they provide a lot of resources and allow players to focus on more interesting tasks.

One of the most popular structures among players is a mob farm. Why go on dangerous expeditions and put your character at risk when you can significantly simplify this routine? In this article, we’ll explain how to build this convenient and efficient construction.

The purpose of these structures is to collect as many resources as possible in a short amount of time. There are many variations: some are built only in The End, others focus on collecting Blaze Rods, while others farm resources from Piglins, and so on.

The primary value of the farm we’ll discuss in this article lies in useful items like gunpowder or string. This is because the following enemies will spawn there:

  • zombies;
  • skeletons;
  • spiders;
  • creepers.

In other words, the enemies that most often appear on the surface or in caves. Due to the technical limitations of the farm, Endermen cannot be farmed here.

This structure is quite simple to build even in the early stages of the game, as it doesn’t require rare resources. Let’s get to the construction!

First, find a suitable place. The future creation won’t look very elegant, but fortunately, this is its only drawback. Dig a 2x2 hole in the ground at the chosen location and place large chests there.

Above them, put four hoppers. Do this while crouching (holding the Shift key), otherwise the chests will open. The mechanism works as follows: mobs spawning in the chamber above (which we will discuss shortly) fall through a long shaft and die on impact, and the loot goes straight into the chests.

The shaft should be 24–27 blocks high. This ensures that the player doesn’t have to finish off the enemies by hand. Additionally, hostile creatures always spawn at least 24 blocks away.

We recommend placing glass at the bottom above the hoppers to make it easier to monitor the farm’s operation.

Now for the high-rise work! At the top of the shaft, create four 2x8 block-wide pathways in different directions. These will be the future channels down which the mobs will slide. They should be 2–3 blocks high.

Carefully place a floor made of any available materials above these. The total area should be 20x20 blocks.

Next, surround the future farm with walls, and pour water from a bucket at the end of each of the four pathways. This will create an infinite flow.

It doesn’t turn into a waterfall due to how liquid behaves in the game. However, once a mob gets caught in the flow, it won’t be able to escape. This is how the farm works. The player just needs to observe from below, collect the resources from the chests, and gather experience.

Now you can close the structure with a roof and place a torch on it. Here’s how the finished build looks.

Recommendations for building a mob farm in Minecraft

Make sure to leave a gap between the shaft and the hopper. This will give the player a chance to finish off any mobs that didn’t die from the fall. Also, spiders won’t be able to crawl through the gap.

Do not add lighting inside the farm. Monsters in Minecraft don’t spawn at night, as one might think, but in low-light conditions (which is why you can find enemies in caves). Additionally, avoid placing too many torches on the roof, as light can partially seep inside and hinder the structure’s stable operation.

Use the most accessible materials for construction, as the entire build will require approximately 1500 blocks, or 25 stacks.

Since the structure doesn’t require rare resources, building this is an excellent solution both in the early and late stages of the game. By creating it, you’ll simplify your gameplay, free yourself from repetitive tasks, and collect a lot of useful resources. We hope our guide has been helpful, and that you’ve successfully built a mob farm in your cubic world!
