Are you lacking strong warriors for a team? In that case, consider Rock type Pokémon. Their tough armor is almost impenetrable, and their attacks can easily crush the most resilient foes.
Naturally, each creature has its strengths + weaknesses: some are more offense-oriented, while others act as living shields. To help you decide which character to add to a team, we present a list of cool, tough, brutal Pokémon.
Which Rock type Pokémon are the best?
We have selected worthy creatures that have Rock kind as either their sole type or one of several. We will start with the weakest and end with the strongest. It’s important to understand that all of them are quite useful, as they made it to this list.
Additionally, these characters are not always directly comparable if they are used for different roles in the team. All Rock type Pokémon are weak against Water, Steel, Grass, Fighting, Ground classes. However, they are strong against Flying, Bug, Fire, Ice.
Onix
Onix is a dangerous rock snake. If tamed, this reptile becomes a kind, gentle pet. Many trainers fly on them. Unlike many other flying creatures, this character can carry multiple people and quickly, safely cover large distances.
The first hero on our list breaks stereotypes because he has phenomenal speed for a creature made of boulders. Onix doesn't fall behind other Rock type Pokémon with a defense stat of 160. However, its other stats are much lower, significantly limiting the number of roles the snake can play on the team.
Archeops
If pterosaurs had feathers like birds, they would look like Archeops. A trainer needs considerable patience to train this feathered dinosaur, as it only follows commands when calm.
This character's regular + special defenses are only 65. Leading the stats are its attack and special attack, which is unusual for Rock type Pokémon. They are 140, 112, respectively. Archeops also doesn’t lag much behind Onix in flight speed, boasting a speed stat of 110.
Gigalith 5
Gigalith is a pure Rock type Pokémon that resembles a golem covered in crystals. This character can absorb solar energy and release it in explosive bursts. The skills are useful in construction, so you often see this golem at construction sites.
This is a typical representative of class, with high attack, defense stats, almost half the health, special defense, and even lower special attack/speed. The speed stat is only 25, but thanks to its other parameters, Gigalith can be an excellent warrior. The total sum of the stats is 515.
Aerodactyl
Obviously inspired by pterodactyls, Aerodactyl closely resembles the ancient reptiles. Unlike Archeops, this Pokémon is a fearsome predator adept at taking down ground enemies, though it also includes fruits and berries in its diet.
Similar to other flying monsters, Aerodactyl is incredibly fast. Speed is the best stat, sitting at 130. Naturally, attack follows, with a value of 105. Aerodactyl is one of those characters capable of striking first with lightning speed. If the damage isn't fatal, the hero can survive a counterattack.
Omastar
A nightmare for divers, Omastar combines features of a snail and an octopus. This monster grabs prey and doesn't let go until it consumes it or loses tentacles. If you try to escape, expect spikes thrown at your back.
Pokémon uses everything at disposal to ensure a meal, otherwise, it must endure weeks of hunger until tentacles, spikes grow back. With 125 defense points, 55 speed, the stats are typical for a snail. What surprises is special attack, which reaches 115! Omastar relies heavily on special abilities.
Carracosta
Carracosta thrives both underwater and on land. Despite the slow walking speed, this Pokémon hunts on the beach, leaving nothing behind as it consumes the shells and bones of prey to strengthen itself.
Although the warrior is slow, the hero boasts impressive stats. With 133 defense, 108 attack, 83 special attack, the creature is practically a universal soldier. However, special defense is not as impressive, sitting at 65.
Probopass
"Somewhere in the Big N office:
— We're out of ideas for character designs.
After a two-hour brainstorming session, a thousand sketches in Paint, and a hundred pages of biography..."
It feels like this is how the design for Probopass was born. It's hard to find another explanation. No descriptions are necessary — you can see it all in the image.
Probopass can serve as a universal damage blocker in your team thanks to defense: 145 normal and 150 special. It's nice that this character can still deal damage, with a special attack of 75.
Bastiodon
Bastiodon looks intimidating but is actually gentle inside. Moreover, this herbivorous hero isn't great in combat. On the other hand, a steel face can deflect almost any attack. It's even tougher than Probopass!
The main stats are defense and special defense: 168 + 138 respectively. Naturally, such high stats come at the cost of speed, which is only 30. Just remember to use Taunt: your warriors will hardly take any damage in battle.
Cradily
Cradily looks deceptively light, harmless, almost toy-like with a smooth, flower-like appearance. In reality, it's quite heavy, and tentacles secrete acid.
Unlike most Pokémon, Cradily has relatively balanced stats, except for low speed. This so-called flower is strong and durable, making it a good choice for your team if you need a self-sufficient warrior.
Alolan Golem
Alolan Golem looks like an angry turtle. Trainers often add this Pokémon to their team for catching steel creatures, thanks to magnetic abilities.
This character boasts high defense, attack stats but has a weak special attack and low speed. Additionally, special defense is below average, making it vulnerable to faster opponents who can quickly take it out of the fight.
Rhyperior
Rhyperior resembles a rhino-golem. Nature matches appearance, but it can be befriended. Main strength lies in moves designed to counter Electric types, making it invaluable if you know you'll be facing such foes.
The stats are standard for kind, with attack slightly higher than defense and an impressive health pool of 115 points. The sum of all the stats is 535.
Aggron
Aggron is like a knight clad in steel armor, known for fiercely defending its territory. This warrior is so powerful it can dig tunnels with horns. In terms of skills, this Pokémon has a plethora of steel + normal moves.
Aggron boasts an incredibly high defense of 180! Following this is 110 attack points. The other stats are average, with just 50 speed, which is low but more than most armored creatures.
Regirock
Regirock is known as a legendary Rock type Pokémon. This character can regenerate itself using any rocks, which is reflected in appearance. It is a fierce warrior eager to battle.
This fighter has a fantastic defense of 200 points. However, it also has weaknesses in special attack, speed. Overall, if your team is fast and deals a lot of damage, you can handle this warrior before Regirock can cause any harm. On the other hand, this rock has many strong moves, complicating the task.
Tyrantrum
An ancient stone dinosaur. At first glance, Tyrantrum may seem like just that. However, it is actually a dragon capable of easily destroying enemies. It is said that jaws can crush metal like paper.
The stats are quite standard. It has 121 attack points, 119 defense, and average special defense + special attack. Additionally, this monster is surprisingly fast, making it potentially more useful than the previously mentioned creatures.
Tyranitar
The leader among Rock type Pokémon is Tyranitar. This fighter is considered pseudo-legendary. It’s no surprise, as the stats even surpass those of the legendary rock monster.
Tyranitar has 134 attack points, 110 defense, 100 health, and special defense, 95 special attack, 61 speed. The total comes to an even 600 stat points. This fighter has moves of various types, with the most common being Normal, Rock, Dark.
Rock type Pokémon are like real stones: sturdy and capable of delivering a powerful hit if they make contact. Don't forget their decent speed. Often, entire teams can be built around such creatures, but some can also play secondary roles.
