The current format of The International raised quite a few questions. Team Spirit, who went undefeated in groups, lost two matches and got eliminated while two third-placed teams are moving to the main event. Today, Xtreme Gaming, a team also belonging to the big four, aka the favourites of the tournament, outdrafted and outplayed Team Spirit. The defending TI champions are sent home one step short of the main event.
Now, there will be a couple days of break. The International will continue on September 13 in Royal Arena in Copenhagen. Four teams keep playing in the upper bracket, four teams are already in the lower bracket, but only one of these eight will earn the right to lift the Aegis of Champions. The most interesting matches of the Main Event Day 1 will be BB Team vs. Team Falcons and Tundra Esports vs. Gaimin Gladiators. We might expect surprises and intense Dota 2 there.
Currently, the prize pool of the event is slightly less than two and a half million dollars, but it still keeps growing, so that number will be surpassed without a doubt.
