EVO 2024, which will take place this week in Las Vegas, is set to be the largest event in the history of fighting games. Over ten thousand registered players will participate in a variety of tournaments. Among the top five largest brackets is Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike, a classic game with over 1,100 participants ready to compete.

Unfortunately, the participation of one of the greatest players in the history of the scene, Daigo Umehara, is in question due to an issue with his ESTA—a travel authorization document used by Japanese citizens to enter the United States. In theory, Daigo still has time to attend the tournament: an ESTA can be obtained within a day, but the complex logistics of air travel across the world make it challenging.

Twenty-five years after the game's release, EVO 2024 will break the record for the number of players in a Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike tournament. If it takes place without the main figure of the most famous highlight in fighting game history, EVO Moment 37, it would be a misfortune bordering on a crime against fate.

Let's recall that the Daigo parry, the magnificent highlight performed by The Beast in a match against Justin Wong, is considered by many to be the most important and impactful moment in the FGC history.
