FIFA has entered into a partnership with Konami to host an esports tournament for eFootball as part of the FIFAe World Cup 2024.The event will take place this year on consoles and mobile devices, with qualifying initiatives starting today, October 10. A total of 18 national teams will be allowed to participate.

FIFA has not had an official licensed game since last year, after ending its relationship with EA. Their last collaborative project was FIFA 23. Following this, EA began releasing its football simulators under the brand EA Sports FC, while FIFA announced plans to create its own competitor in the field, though no such game has materialized so far.

There have been rumors that the FIFA rights could have been acquired by 2K, but no official confirmation has been made. It is possible that FIFA may choose to collaborate with Konami in the end. However, the current state of eFootball is far from ideal, to say the least. We're not saying it is beyond any repairs, but Konami needs to bring huge upgrades in almost every aspect.
