The International 2024 is slowly but surely approaching. We already know the list of all the teams that will fly to Copenhagen to compete for the title of Dota 2 world champions, but we do not know what the prize pool will be... Or rather, we know the minimum amount.
The sum of $1,600,000 is a kind of ritual: it was the prize pool for the first two The International tournaments. Then Valve came up with the compendium, which transformed into the battle pass, giving the winners millions of dollars in prizes.
This year, Valve has not announced any measures to support esports players yet. Given that there are less than 60 days left before the start of the tournament, we can expect either a new battle pass soon or something entirely new.
The second option could be indicated by the fact that last year’s The International prize pool barely exceeded three million dollars, and honestly, it's hard to find the motivation for Valve to continue supporting esports in this form. The 2024 tournament could be a good platform for experiments.
The International 2024 Main Event starts on September 13, but teams will begin competing in Copenhagen as early as September 4.
