Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur's Gate III are two of the biggest gaming releases of the past few years. It is unsurprising that people tend to compare these two games in almost every possible way. One such aspect is the release model: when Phantom Liberty DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 was released, the game was finally in good shape. Baldur's Gate III had an early access model, and its release went with very few problems.
Paweł Sasko, quest director of Phantom Liberty, spoke about the difference in such models at GDC. Sasko says: "I would be cautious with that [AAA-titles using early access], just because there is a very specific situation with Larian here."
He calls Baldur's Gate III "probably the first one really that had this much success with early access." He added that CDPR sets its goals "to have a banging release, where everything is just as close to perfection as can be… pretty much as we shipped Phantom Liberty,"
While this approach has its positive sides, the most important part is to have excellent quality at the release of the game. Phantom Liberty could boast that, but unfortunately, the original Cyberpunk 2077 was far from that.
