Sometimes, legal mishaps can be incredibly absurd. There was a story where the band Deep Purple was asked to pay for the right to perform their own songs at a concert. Or the case where a complaint was sent on behalf of Skibidi Toilet against Garry's Mod, which was ridiculous. Recently, we had another sad incident.
The Baldur’s Village, a mod for Stardew Valley based on the game of the year in 2003, received a DMCA strike from Wizards of the Coast. The mod added a location with BG3 characters, including Shadowheart and Astarion, with the latter having a romantic storyline.
After its release in March 2025, the mod quickly gained popularity. It was even praised by Swen Vincke, the head of Larian Studios, who called it amazing. After the takedown, he also commented on the situation. According to him, mods like this shouldn't be considered illegal commercial activities.

However, it was later revealed that the complaint was filed by mistake. Wizards of the Coast uses third-party agencies to search for violations, and once again, this system caused an unfortunate error. For now, we’ll have to wait for more similar cases, because unfortunately, they never seem to stop.
